What to expect at kitespot Sant Pere Pescador?
In Spain, a two hours drive from Barcelona airport or one hour away from Girona airport you’ll find kitespot Sant Pere Pescador. It is part of a huge gulf called “Golfo de Roses”. The exact name of the kite beach is Can Martinet. This part of the shore (about 300m long) is only for kiters. The rest of the beach is for swimmers.
Thermal Wind
The thermal wind is from the South East or East (side on-shore or on-shore). In spring and summer it picks up in the afternoon. During spring it is more windy than in July and August. If you visit Sant Pere Pescador in April, May or June bring a 9-13m kite (75kg). If you are traveling in summer, it’s better to opt for 11-15m.
Normally, you can have lazy mornings, because of the afternoon thermal. Check the section Other activities for info on options before going to the kitespot.
Some days the wind blows from the North or North West. It becomes really strong, gusty and off-shore. It is highly discouraged and dangerous to kite on these conditions. Please, don’t do it!
Water conditions
The water is mostly choppy at kitespot Sant Pere Pescador, and shallow next to the shore.
From time to time a small swell arrives and there are some waves to kitesurf.
The water temperature is around 20ºC to 26ºC in summer. In summer you’ll only need a shorty or even your boardshort or bikini. Wear a lycra because otherwise you may get sunburn!
Launch Area
The launch area is big and sandy with plenty of space. However, a lot of people want to launch just in front of the parking, so it gets a bit crowded at the entry. If you walk 100m to the north, there will be less people and you may not need to wind up your lines when you’re not on the water.
