What to expect at kitespot Viana Do Castelo?

In Portugal a 45 minute drive from Porto you’ll find kitespot Viana Do Castelo with a wide sandy beach and nice flat water for the most north of the beach (2km).

After 2km the waterstop of the wavebreaker ends and Atlantic waves roll in. It’s a very good place to start kitesurfing or get you tricks up and one of the best kitespots in Portugal to visit.

Thermal wind

Kitespot Viana Do Castelo is less crowded and has more wind than Esposende. The best wind to kitesurf on is NW. This wind is mostly thermal. Check the forecast and add 10 knots in spring and summer for the thermal wind.

The kiteboarding season is from May until mid-October. Best winds are present from June to August with around 5 out of 7 days wind.

At Praia de Luzia Mar, 1km from the beach start, there are a few rocks on the beach and in the water. Don’t say hello to them. The beach has more than enough space to set up your gear.

Park your car at the most north of kitesurf spot Viana Do Castelo.
