What to expect at kitespot Holbox?

In Mexico, at kitespot Holbox you’ll find an island vibe kitespot with an authentic little coast town vibe. Sandy roads, very few cars, mostly golf cars, traditional colorful fisherman casitas, and a wide and long beach with a pretty good standing area covered with shallow green emerald water.

The kiting spot is at Punta Mosquito. You’ll need a golf car or atv to transport yourself with all the gear. There are two main schools working in the spot and when there’s wind, there’s always someone kiting there.
After your session, you come back to the town's bubble to maybe try it’s famous lobster pizza.

Wind

Windy season starts in November with dispersed winds, filling up by December to then get more consistency from February till May. North winds hit on shore and make the sea more gray and desarragend. But side on shore and side off shore winds make it quite arranged.

Thermal winds also start kicking in at Hol box, so if there’s no wind at all in Riviera Maya, you might get some thermal wind normally from April through June.

Water conditions

Shallow with a wide standing area, and then warm, deeper, water. Small waves on the shore line.

Launch area

At the kite spot in Punta Mosquito, you’ll find a long beach with enough launching and landing space.

Lessons & Gear

There’s three main schools there: Kukul Kite, Lifestyle Kiteboarding and Holbox Kiteboarding School.

Level of riding

Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced.

Warnings

Do not kite in the public beach; only at Punta Mosquito.
Bring your mosquito repellent.

Facilities

Lodging, restaurants and little convenience stores. If you are gonna stay for a while, better stack up groceries in Cancun.

How to get there?

From Cancun's airport head on to Mérida´s highway to then take the exit towards Chiquilá. Once at Chiquilá, leave your car at a garage and take the next ferry.
