Kitespot Psalidi: What to Expect?

If you're looking for a reliable and vibrant kitesurfing destination in Europe, Psalidi on the island of Kos, Greece, should be on your radar. With consistent thermal winds, clear ocean waters, and a welcoming kitesurfing community, Psalidi is ideal for intermediate to advanced riders looking for their next wind-fueled adventure.

Psalidi is located on the east coast of Kos island, just outside Kos Town. The beach offers a scenic and functional setup with essential facilities for kiters. You’ll find a laid-back Mediterranean atmosphere paired with steady wind conditions that attract riders from all over Europe during the summer.

Thermal Wind

The Meltemi wind at Psalidi is predominantly thermal, blowing steadily from the northwest. From June through March, you can expect rideable conditions, but July, August, and September are the peak months, delivering the most consistent and powerful winds. When there is almost no wind at other Kos kitespots, Psalidi will be windy, due to wind pressed through the upper islands (venturi effect). Wind speeds range between 15–30 knots, offering plenty of action for freeriders and freestylers alike.

Kitesizes

During high season, 7m to 10m kites are most commonly used. Heavier riders or those going out in early mornings before the thermals pick up may get by with a 12m, but most days you'll find the sweet spot with your 9m.

Water Conditions

The water at Psalidi is crystal clear and varies between flat sections and light chop, with some small waves further out. There's no tide to worry about, and the water is deep fairly quickly from the shoreline—ideal for seasoned riders who want uninterrupted carving. Additionally kiteschools provide a rescue service at this spot.

Launch Area

The beach is mainly pebbles and stones, with one small sandy area for setting up your kite. Launching and landing is manageable thanks to the ample space, but bring booties if you're not used to rocky surfaces. The designated kite zone keeps things organized even during busier summer months.

Lessons & Gear

There are local kite schools operating directly at the spot, offering lessons and rental gear. Whether you're tuning your jumps or renting for a session, everything you need is within reach. Gear is typically up to date, and instructors are certified and multilingual.

Hazards

There are no major hazards on the beach itself, but in the water, you should watch out for ships, especially if you're venturing away from the main kite zone. It’s advisable to stay alert during launch and landing due to the stony terrain.

Level of Riding

Psalidi is best suited for intermediate and advanced riders. Beginners can learn here thanks to the available lessons, but the deep water and choppy sections require confidence in your board skills and water relaunching. Riders looking to push their limits will love the reliable wind and uncrowded water.

Facilities

On-site you'll find everything you need for a comfortable kite day:

  • Rooms for rent nearby
  • Showers and toilets
  • Food and drinks readily available
  • Parking right next to the beach

It's a well-equipped spot that lets you focus on kiting without logistical headaches and also suitable to combine with a family holiday.
