What to Expect?
Prasonisi is a unique kitespot located in Rhodos, Greece, known for its split sea and two different water conditions. The western side of the beach offers wavy waters while the other side is very flat but crowded with windsurfers. Unfortunately it's forbidden to kitesurf at the eastern side of the bay (mediterranean sea side). The beach is surrounded by two mountains that accelerate the wind, creating ideal conditions for kitesurfing.
Wind
The prevailing wind at Prasonisi is the Meltemi, blowing onshore from the northwest from June to October (20-30 knots). The wind is enforced by an venturi effect because of the two surrounding mountains. Also there is thermal enforcement during summer afternoons.
Kitesizes
During summer, 7m to 10m kites (75kg) are most commonly used. Heavier riders or those going out in early mornings before the thermals pick up may get by with a 12m, but most days you'll find the sweet spot with your 9m.
Kiteseason
The best time to visit Prasonisi for kitesurfing is from June to October when the Meltemi wind is most consistent. During this period, you can expect optimal wind conditions for kitesurfing.
Water conditions
As mentioned earlier, the sea at Prasonisi is split into two parts with different water conditions. One side offers wavy waters, while the other side is flat but busy with windsurfers. There are shallow areas in the water, making it suitable for riders of all levels.
Launch Area
The beach at Prasonisi provides ample space for launching and landing kites. However, it is essential to be mindful of cars on the beach, as they can pose a hazard to kitesurfers.
