What to expect at kitespot Mancora?
In Peru, a 3 hour drive north from Piura airport (which is the closest one) you’ll find kitespot Mancora. This wave spot is famous because of its consistent waves at its two main point breaks.
It´s beach is quite long, with lots of traditional fishing boats sitting by the shore or the sea and it's fed by the pacific ocean.
In Mancora itself you´ll descend from desert hills into a little coast town where the Panamerica highway is reduced to the main street of the town and where a bunch of tuc-tucs, cars, tourists, locals, surfers, cows, horses, bicycles, will pass by every day. There are all small restaurants with delicious seafood along the road and all sorts of accomodation by the beach or inside the town. Mancora will make you feel in a latin american surfer town.
Wind
The wind blows pretty much all year round on a thermal basis, but the best months are from June to September and then from October till January (12-30kts). The worst months are from February till May. Side on shore in most parts of the coast and side in some other parts.
The recommended kitesizes to bring vary from 6-12m. Being the 7,8 and 9 meters, the most used at the wave spot.
Water conditions
Pacific Ocean, 18oC average, dark green blue. No sharks. The water is a bit choppy with a shore break when swells come. The waves normally don't go bigger than double head height (3,5m/12ft) and are well suited for beginners and intermediate riders since they are not too aggressive. You´ll be comfortable with a 3:3 or 4:3 long wetsuit.
Launch Area
Wide and long beach.
