Paracas - Peru

What to expect at kitespot Paracas?

In Peru, a 4 hours drive from Lima Airport, you will find kitespot Paracas.

Paracas town is a small village in the coastal desert and the spot is located between sand dunes in a Natural reserve. The view from the water is stunning, it is full of birds and flamingos and it is very common to see seals.

Best kitesurf wind

Best kitesurfing wind comes from the south. Normally in the morning the wind blows from the south. Around 11:30 the wind turns to the south and blows between 2 large sand dunes, creating a Venturi effect and blowing even stronger. The wind is best and more reliable between October and February.

Thermal wind

Yes, from the South, normally from around 11:30 in the morning until 7 pm in high season (October to end of April). It lasts a bit less during the low season. The thermal wind is never the same but it is normally between 12 and 20 knots.

Water conditions

The water is usually flat/choppy according to how much wind there is (the more wind, the choppier). However, in some areas the water stays pretty flat.

Launch area

The launch area is huge. There is plenty of space and normally plenty of people to help you launch and land (the instructors of the schools are super nice and there is also a beach boy, unless he is busy with the boat rescue).

Crowd level

The spot is rarely too crowded. It gets more busy during weekends and peruvian holidays but there is plenty of space.

Level of riding

The spot is good for all levels of riding. The lagoon is pretty flat and shallow for a long time before becoming deep. There are also some wind shadows, downwind from the kite schools, where the wind completely dies. However, the schools offer a boat rescue service. During sand storms, which happen when the forecast shows strong wind all day, only experienced riders should kite.

Local kitesurf rules

There are not too many rules. However, it is important to avoid staying too close to students taking lessons. Also, it is forbidden to ride in some areas to avoid disturbing the birds living there.

Lessons and Gear

Perukite has their own kite brand and Duotone. Kangarookite uses Cabrinha.

Facilities

There is plenty of free parking available in front of the spot. Kangaroo kite has a small bar, storage, changing rooms, hot showers, air compressor and bathrooms.
