Kitespot Isla del Ciervo: What to expect?
In Murcia, a 1.5 hour drive from Alicante Airport you ‘ll find La Manga del Mar Menor and its main kitespot, Isla del Ciervo.
Kitespot Isla del Ciervo is located in a very touristic place with water on the two sides of a huge sand bar. Isla del Ciervo is on the lagoon side, so you will have a flat place to kite.
Thermal Wind
The thermal wind comes from the South West and the best season is spring / summer. At kitespot Isla del Ciervo the wind is often light, although some days it can blow up to 20 knots. It is quite rare for the thermal wind to blow stronger than that.
Between April and July (peak season) it blows 10-20 knots, so you’ll need a 10-15m kite (75 kg). During the rest of the year it could blow a little if the day is unusually hot or if there is stormy weather.
Water conditions
At kitespot Isla del Ciervo it is flat and shallow. However, it will be choppy if the wind picks up more than 15 knots.
At this kitespot the water is warm. You’ll need a 3/2mm wetsuit during the first months of spring. From mid May and during all summer, you’ll enjoy the pleasure of kiting wearing only your boardshorts and/or bikini.
Launch Area
At kitespot Isla del Ciervo the launching area is huge. It is mainly sandy with some stones and pieces of brick, so you should watch out not only when walking barefoot, but also when choosing the place to set up your kite.

Warnings
At kitespot Isla del Ciervo there are some stones and pieces of bricks on the shore. Also, there are some mooring posts (similar to rocks) at the bottom of the lagoon. Watch out not to hit them and get hurt!
Facilities
Parking your car close to kitespot Isla del Ciervo could be very difficult because it is also a hotspot for tourists. An alternative is going to the streets that are more to the south and crossing your fingers!
As Isla del Ciervo is a touristic place, there is a wide range of restaurants, surf shops, supermarkets and hotels nearby to stay in or buy your beverages.
