El Gouna (Mövenpick) - Egypt
beginner  flatwater sand sea

What to expect at kitespot El Gouna Mövenpick?

In Egypt, a 45 minute drive from Hurghada airport, you will find kitespot El Gouna Mövenpick with flat shallow water and a private resort beach on Egypt's Red Sea.

Kitespot El Gouna Mövenpick and its resorts is perfect when you travel with family and want to kite while your family joins you or takes a rest at the beach and reads a book. No need to take a taxi or bus to the kite beach when you stay in the Mövenpick resort.

When you have a ground floor room in cluster 1 you walk straight out onto the kitebeach, get your kite gear out of a locker, set-up and go.

Wind

Wind is dominantly side-offshore from the North, Northwest and a bit gusty around the launch area because of the surrounding buildings. This doesn’t have to hold you back from some good sessions because there is a rescue service when needed.

The wind on this spot consists of 3 parts:
Tradewind (common around the equator)
Thermal (because of cold water and warm air above land)
Venturi effect (because of the surroundings, which creates a wind channel)

All the above makes that you can have fun at this spot during the whole year, but most certainly between June and September.

Kitesizes

Most used kitesize at this spot is 12m (80kg). However it is advised to bring all your kites in a range from 6m to 15m.

Water conditions

There is shallow and flat water in the lagoon directly in front of the spot and in the lagoon after the canal, choppy and deepwater in the canal between those 2 lagoons.

Secondly the shallow water area has ankle to waist deep water, depending on the tides. In the deepwater there is a rescue boat watching you, in case you need any assistance.

Thirdly the first lagoon has a big sandy area and a coral reef just before the deepwater starts. At the second lagoon there are also big sandy areas, with some corals and stones.

Because the water is nicely warm in Summer, a lycra and shorts will be sufficient in Summer, a shorty in Spring/Autumn and a wetsuit in Winter.

Launch Area

The sandy launch area is not very big. However the friendly Kitepeople staff will help you to launch and land your kite.
